From August 22 to September 16th, FLIP Fest will be curating an art gallery at the University of Lethbridge's Dr. Foster James Penny Building in downtown Lethbridge. We are looking for women, femmes and non-binary artists who want to submit their art to the exhibition.
Our featured artist for the exhibition will be Mahlet Cuff, a multidisciplinary, Treaty One-based artist who works with photography, collage, sound and textiles. "Mahlet Cuff’s work is focused on reconstructing the ideas and stereotypes that are centred around women and their bodies. Specifically for black women, The Hair Diaries is an unapologetic look into self love through hair. It focuses on telling the stories of different women's experiences with their hair in terms of race, class, romantic, platonic relationships, media, the education system and overcoming the idea that Eurocentric features are not the epitome of beauty and self worth."
We would love you to submit your visual art, and hope that you keep Cuff's work in mind while doing so!
